Criminology Applied Certificate & Diploma Level 3

  • Graig Campus
Two years full-time

Criminology is a fascinating subject and is ever-changing. You will study the representation of crime within the media, exploring the reasons why we are all so invested in crime through documentaries, films, and streaming services such as YouTube. You will analyse how the media can create criminal stereotypes, and how games such as Grand Theft Auto are often blamed for being the basis of criminal behaviour in young people.

You will study a range of criminological theories, and how they can apply to a range of real-life criminals, including serial killers. You will analyse whether their actions are a result of genetics or brain structures, psychological factors such as upbringing and development, or sociological factors such as labelling and experiences within society.

This course includes exciting and thought-provoking debates on a range of criminological topics and theories. For example, you will discover and discuss the factors contributing to criminal behaviour, such as genetics, background, and environment. This course is equivalent to one A Level after the two years, and is designed to be studied alongside other A Level subjects.

Criminology has many practical applications and opportunities to build a range of transferable skills, including research, debate, and ICT. Criminology pairs perfectly with a range of A Level subjects, for example Psychology, Sociology, Law, Media Studies, and Biology.
