Looking to earn money, find independence and get on the career ladder?

You might be searching for the right job or next steps in education and just need some support to get you there.

That’s where Jobs Growth Wales+ can help. It’s a great way to boost your confidence and get a taste of work you might be interested in. You’ll also have access to free training, work placements and paid jobs with employers in your area.

This strand of Jobs Growth Wales+ will help you decide what to do next. It’s also a good place to start if you need more support to help you take part in employment and education.

It gives you the opportunity to experience jobs you might be interested in before you commit to a course or apprenticeship. It will also help you get ready for and move into the world of work.

You will work towards an Employability qualification.

You will be paid a training allowance of up to a maximum of £60 (for completing 30 hours a week, with fewer than 30 hours paid pro rata) and travel costs, as applicable.

If you have a particular job or career path in mind, this strand of Jobs Growth Wales+ will help you turn this into a reality.

You can gain new skills in your chosen subject and qualifications to help you progress to a higher level.

You’ll also gain work experience with local employers. You might even get a real job interview at the end of your work experience, and the support you receive through Jobs Growth Wales+ will help you make a good impression.

  • You will be required to attend college to study Level 1 Hairdressing and Essential Skills Qualifications in Communications, Application of Number, and Digital Literacy. You will also attend work experience in a salon.

  • You will be required to attend college to study Level 1 Construction and Essential Skills Qualifications in Communications, Application of Number, and Digital Literacy. You will also gain work experience on site each week.

  • You will be required to attend college to study  Level 1 Motor Vehicle and Essential Skills Qualifications in Communications, Application of Number and Digital Literacy. You will also gain work experience in a garage for three days a week.

  • You will be required to attend college to study Level 1 Health and Social Care or Child Care and Essential Skills Qualifications in Communications, Application of Number and Digital Literacy. You will also gain work experience in a child care setting for two days a week.

If you know what you want to do and are ready to start working, the Jobs Growth Wales+ Employment strand can help you find a job.

What’s in it for you?

This programme lets you try out work experience first. After that, you can move into a paid job at the minimum wage for your age, for up to six months. Your employer will also get some financial support from the Welsh Government to help cover your salary during this time.

You’ll be considered job-ready and focused on your career by your Working Wales Advisor.

Preparing for work, like knowing what to expect in a job

  • Gaining essential skills

  • Coaching and mentoring during your first six months of work to help you grow and develop your skills
How much will you earn?

While you’re looking for a job through Jobs Growth Wales+, you can get a training allowance of up to £60 per week.

You need to attend college or a work placement for at least 16 hours each week. However, to receive the full £60 training allowance, you must attend for 30 hours or more in any seven-day period. The amount you get will depend on how many hours you participate.

When you get a job, instead of a training allowance you’ll earn a proper salary paid at least at National Minimum Wage.

For those who need it, additional financial and personal support is available to help you complete your Jobs Growth Wales+ programme. Eligibility criteria will apply, and Working Wales advisers will discuss your circumstances when they assess your needs.
