AS/A Level History
- Graig Campus
The study of history provides a fascinating contrast of periods, personalities and approaches. It helps us understand the lives of people who have lived before us and the way in which they have shaped the world in which we live. Study of the subject sharpens the critical faculties and the skills developed can be used in many other fields.
This history A-level course enables students to study recent twentieth century European history, alongside the more traditional British Tudor history and this contrasts with the American international history dimension.
These topics allow students to develop into well-rounded historians and develop the skills and attributes most universities look favourably upon. The department provides opportunities to participate in the Lessons from Auschwitz project with the Holocaust Educational Trust and hosts a programme of visiting lecturers from experts in the field. Students have also been supported in completing an Welsh Baccalaureate independent project in history to assist with applications to Oxbridge and Russell Group universities to study single or joint history degrees. We have had great success in preparing students for Oxbridge and Russell Group university applications and interviews.
