This comprehensive two-year applied science A level is specifically designed to foster a deep understanding of the natural sciences (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) through immersive and practical learning experiences. Emphasising the development of transferable and higher-order thinking skills, this course equips learners with tools necessary for success in higher education or direct employment. Through engaging coursework, students cultivate critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to approach scientific challenges with creativity and innovation.

Moreover, this programme provides ample opportunities for learners to acquire a diverse range of skills essential for pursuing specific degree courses. Students refine their proficiency in deciphering scientific and technical texts, honing their analytical and practical competencies, and mastering the art of preparing assessments such as comprehensive reports and scientific papers.

The programme provides an excellent basis for progression to higher education. Previous learners have progressed onto a range of courses around the UK. 

Year 1: External Assessment(25%), Internal Assessment (25%)

Year 2: External Assessment (33%), Internal Assessment (17%)

A minimum of six GCSEs at grades A*-C To include: GCSE Mathematics, English Language or Welsh (First Language), Double/Triple Science at a C grade or above.

All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.

You will need to provide your own stationery and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits.

All STEM subjects can help you develop transferable skills, such as critical thinking, problem solving, lateral thinking, and working as part of a team, which are highly sought-after qualities for any employer. They are academically rigorous, and also demonstrate an ability to manage heavy workloads, motivation and time keeping skills, and can lead to the highest-paying jobs.

Like all A Level subjects, STEM subjects are challenging, and you will need to be motivated and fully engaged to be successful.
