Government and Politics is a fascinating subject that has an impact on all our lives. In a rapidly changing world, this government and politics A level will give you an understanding of how governments function, Britain’s commitment to international organisations, the ideologies behind the major political parties, human rights issues and even Brexit.
If you are interested in current affairs, enjoy reading the news, or are simply curious about the major shifts in world politics, then this A level is for you. Lessons are lively, provoking debate and are insightful. You will have opportunities to attend TV political debates, contribute to youth programmes with the local council and visit Parliament.

What you will learn
Studying Government and Politics will develop your interest in, and give you an understanding of, the systems of government and the political issues of Britain and America. You will develop your knowledge of contemporary affairs taught in modern, well equipped classrooms. GovPol@CSG develops transferable skills and critical thought which are key skills essential for Higher Education.
AS Level:
In year 1 you will concentrate on British Politics. You will study British and Welsh governments, political parties, elections and social movements.
A Level:
This is divided into two papers: the first is on political ideologies and global politics, and the final unit looks in-depth at American politics and its influences around the world.
Progression & Employment
Politics will equip you with a wide range of academic and communication skills, which are highly valued by many different careers. Previous students have gone on to study politics at university and taken up careers in teaching, law, Welsh politics, local government and the voluntary sector.

There is no coursework in this course.
A minimum of six GCSEs at grades A*-C To include: GCSE English Language and Mathematics at a C grade or above. A B grade in English Language is strongly recommended.
All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.
You will need to provide your own stationery and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits.
