Fertilisers like slurry play an important role in farming and agriculture. However, they need to be used correctly to prevent them having a negative effect on people and the environment. This course was designed to enable learners to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills in the safe use and application of slurry and farm yard manure.

Programme Description
A variety of topics are covered including consequences of not using and managing slurry and manures properly, legislation and guidance which affect organic and inorganic nitrate use, identifying different types of manure and fertiliser and understanding product labels and the environmental impacts and how they can be overcome. As well as, health and safety, dealing with accidents, spreading machinery, minimising ammonia emissions during application, record keeping and manure management.
Completing this course will give learners the knowledge and confidence they need to be able to safely store and use fertilisers such as slurry. As well as, understanding regulations, legislation, product information, how to deal with incidents if they were to occur and how to correctly record information.
This course is suitable for anyone wishing to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills in the safe use and application of slurry and farm yard manure.
Learners could progress onto other courses once they have achieved a certificate of completion for this course.
