Pesticides, whilst potentially harmful substances, are very successful and are widely used in land-based industries. Due to the harmful nature it is vital that they are only used by people who are properly trained in the safe use of pesticides. PA6 provides training in the use of handheld sprayers.

Programme Description

The course looks at how to prepare your equipment, the maintenance of it and its safe operation and calibration. With the end goal being to achieve competence in the safe use of pesticides using a hand held appliance. To do this various topics are covered including preparation, hydraulic nozzle and rotary atomiser, type applicators, hand held applicators, granule, applicators, application of water, application to viscous gel formulation, site work and maintenance of applicator.

A half day practical assessment is undertaken, not only to test the learners understanding of the material but to give them confidence that they have the skills necessary to complete this course.

This course is designed for individuals involved in the storage, handling and application of pesticides using handheld equipment and the maintenance of handheld type sprayers.

Learners may progress onto further units once they have achieved a certificate of completion for this course. Learners could always inquire into the Level 2 Award in the Safe Application of Pesticides Using Vehicle Mounted Boom Sprayer Equipment (PA2a) course as a progression option.
