To prevent the spread of disease and the loss of crops farmers, businesses and consumers use pesticides. Pesticides help the agriculture community manage insects, diseases and invasive weeds to protect the world’s food supply. Consumers also use pesticides to protect themselves from insects and their property from termites and invasive plants.

Programme Description

The aim of this course is to achieve competence in the safe use of pesticides and using a ground crop sprayer. In order to do this a variety of topics will be covered including legislation, interpreting product labels and literature, personal safety, storing pesticides, disposal of surplus unused pesticides and washings, dealing with contamination and keeping records. As well as, safe driving practice, preparation of equipment, setting and testing application rate, site work, fault finding and types of sprayer.

Designed for those both new to the job and who have already established themselves in a pesticide-based role by undertaking this course, learners will develop knowledge, understanding and skills in the safe use and application of pesticides. Learners will also have the ability to test their new found knowledge with a half day assessment at the end of the course. Leaving learners with the skills and confidence to carry out the application of pesticides using vehicle mounted boom sprayer equipment.

This course is suitable for those entering work, those who have established themselves in a role and those working at technician/supervisory/management levels.

Learners completing this course can progress onto one of the various other courses offered helping to further develop their skills and knowledge within the industry and progressing their careers and employability.
