Children’s Care, play, learning and development: Practice Level 2 (College Course)

This qualification is primarily for those working in:
- Regulated child care with families and children under the age of 8
- NHS children’s services for those working with families and children aged 0-19.
It is designed for learners in work based learning.
It is suitable for:
- Learners 16 years+ working in a support role in childcare
- Learners have completed Level 2 Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development: Core
- Learners in work and undertaking Level 2 roles and responsibilities
- Learners returning to the workforce looking to refresh their knowledge and skills.
We strongly recommend learners complete level two childcare, play, learning and development: core qualification before, or alongside this qualification: this will be a requirement for practice set by Social Care Wales.

What you will learn
The qualification is practice based and assesses learners’ knowledge and competence to practise in employment.
This is a flexible course, designed to suit learners who prefer to continue working alongside the qualification.
To achieve the Level 2 (adults) and 3 (adults or cyp) Health and Social Care : Practice qualification learners must:
- Level 2:
- Achieve a minimum of 35 credits in total;
- 14 credits must be achieved from the mandatory group.
- A minimum of 14 credits must be achieved from optional group A.
- The balance of 7 credits can be achieved from units in optional groups A or B.
- A maximum of 14 credits from optional group A and B may be achieved from units at Level 3
- The minimum guided learning hour requirement for this qualification is 175.
Work-based learning Fees: £115 (exceptions apply)
- Level 3:
- Achieve a minimum of 50 credits in total;
- 18 credits must be achieved from the mandatory group.
- A minimum of 13 (cyp) or 14 (adults) credits must be achieved from optional group A.
- The balance of 19 (cyp) or 18 (adults) credits can be achieved from units in optional groups A or B.
- A maximum of 10 credits from optional group A and B may be achieved from units at Level 2
- The minimum guided learning hour requirement for this qualification is 240.
Work-based learning Fees: £185 (exceptions apply)
Completion of this qualification enables learners to work as a qualified level two childcare worker in a supervised capacity. The qualification also prepares for progress to:

Learners will need to fulfil additional age and experience related requirements for some leadership roles.
The level two Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development: practice qualification is assessed through a combination of internal and external assessment. Candidates must successfully complete:
- An externally set, internally marked set of tasks
- A portfolio of evidence
- A discussion with their assessor
You will be required to undertake a successful interview and be formally assessed using the WEST toolkit.
You will also require a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.
You will need to provide your own stationery. Sufficient time must be permitted by the workplace to allow regular meetings between assessor, learner and manager.
