This apprenticeship offers a structured pathway for individuals seeking a career in children’s care, play, learning, and development. At Level 2, learners develop foundational knowledge and understanding of core principles and values in the sector, preparing them for supervised roles as childcare workers. At Level 3, apprentices deepen their expertise, qualifying them to work in unsupervised capacities and preparing them for leadership roles. Both levels cover essential topics such as legislation, safeguarding, and the impact on children’s health and development. The training is workshop and practice-based at the workplace, with expert training advisors providing support and guidance throughout.

Level 3:

Modules cover topics such as:

Level 2:

  • Qualified level 3 childcare worker (unsupervised capacity)

Assessment methods include:

  • Internally assessed tasks
  • Externally marked multiple-choice question papers
  • Portfolio of evidence including observation of practice
  • Level 2: Positive reference, employment in childcare sector for minimum 16 hours per week
  • Level 3: Positive reference, employment in childcare sector for minimum 16 hours per week, completion of Level 2 or equivalent
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE)
