Health & Social Care: core – Adults/Children and Young People Level 2 (College Course)

Working in health and social care involves providing support, assistance, and care to individuals who may have physical, mental, or social needs. It is a broad field that encompasses various roles and settings.

The level two Health and Social Care Core: This qualification has been aimed at post 16 learners in Wales working or seeking to work in health and social care.

It has been developed by the City and Guilds/WJEC consortium in conjunction with stakeholders from the health and social care sector. These include Social Care Wales, Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) tutors, teachers and work-based assessors.

It is designed to be delivered by a range of different centres types including work based learning and further education

What you will learn

This is a flexible course, designed to suit learners who prefer to continue working alongside the qualification or within a college-based setting.

The course is a required element to progress onto the practice component: Level two or three.

The qualification covers the fundamental knowledge and understanding of the All Wales Induction Framework for Health and Social Care and reflects a range of different roles and settings

The contents cover;

  • The principles and values of health and social care
  • Health and Well-being
  • Professional practice as a health and social care worker
  • Safeguarding Individuals
  • Health and Safety in health and social care 

This qualification supports learners to progress into further study; including the following qualifications within the suite of health and social care

  • Level 2 Health and Social Care: Practice (Adults) 
  • Level 2 Health and Social Care: Principles and Context (Adults, Children and Young People)
  • Level 3 Health and Social Care Practice (Adults)
  • Level 3 Health and Social Care (Children and Young people)
  • Level 3 Certificate and Diploma in Health and Social Care: Principles and Context
  • Level 3 Advanced GCE and Advanced Subsidiary GCE in Health and Social Care , and Childcare

The level 2 Health and Social Care Core and Children and Young People Core qualification is assessed through a combination of internal and external assessment.

Candidates must successfully complete:

  • Three externally set, internal scenario-based assessments; and
  • One externally set, externally marked multiple-choice test.

You will be required to undertake a successful interview and be formally assessed using the WEST toolkit. You will also require a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.

You will need to provide your own stationery. Sufficient time must be permitted by the workplace to allow regular meetings between assessor, learner and manager
