This course provides learners with opportunities to link education and the world of work in engaging, relevant and practical ways with a course which is globally recognised and benchmarked. 

The focus is on the development of technical, practical and transferable work-related skills and business specific knowledge.  The development of these skills is key for learners to progress to work, further education or to an apprenticeship.

What you will learn

The course has a core of underpinning, knowledge, skills and understanding with optional units reflecting the breadth of pathways within the sector. Learners have an opportunity to

  • Gain a broad understanding and knowledge of a vocational sector
  • Investigate areas of specific interest
  • Develop essential skills and attributes prized by employers, further education colleges and higher educational institutions

Up-to-date content that is closely aligned with employers’ needs for a skilled future workforce.

The Diploma consists of the following mandatory units:

  • Enterprise in the Business World
  • Finance for Business
  • Promoting a Brand
  • Principles of Marketing
  • Small Business Planning
  • Introducing Project Management

Together with three to six optional specialist units

Successful completion of the course will enable you to progress to an apprenticeship in business or employment.   Students who gain an overall merit profile will also be considered for progression onto the level 3 Enterprise and Entrepreneurship course.

The Diploma is assessed via a mix of internally set assignments set by your lecturers and external examinations set by BTEC.

We require four GCSE grades at D or above, with two C grades.  One C must be English, maths or Welsh first language. Students progressing from a suitable level one qualification must have a Merit profile and pass an interview successfully.

All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.

You will need to provide your own stationery and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits.
