For those who are passionate about business or starting and running their own business this is the course, which was developed by Peter Jones of Dragon’s Den, is the course for you.
This vocational course is ideal for learners who want to further their experience in the field or business or to become a successful entrepreneur.
It develops knowledge, understanding and skills in a range of business areas to help you identify a potential business opportunity and develop your own business. Learners are supported by the college’s entrepreneurial champion who encourages you to develop your business ideas and organises visits to local businesses to develop networking opportunities as well as providing events to encourage entrepreneurship and generate business awareness.
All learners are encouraged to participate in a variety of events such as competing in competitions like the Beacon Bursary.

What you will learn
This qualification was developed by Peter Jones of Dragon’s Den to develop necessary knowledge and skills and to give you confidence, motivation and communication skills. Exciting business theories are delivered and discussed in the classroom. Visits to employers ensure learners are able to apply business theory to actual case studies. Successful completion of assignments and exams ensures learners achieve a nationally recognised qualification which can lead to self-employment, employment, apprenticeships or to university.
Guest speakers and competitions further enhance learning and career progression.
Learners will have the opportunity to complete a national foundation diploma in year one and a national extended diploma in enterprise and entrepreneurship in year two, which consists of 12 units. A range of units are studied which include enterprise and entrepreneurs, developing a marketing campaign, business and personal finance, launch and run an enterprise, business decision making and principles of management.
This course also includes Essential Skills.
Successful completion of the course will enable you to progress to careers in a range of business related areas such as marketing, retailing and finance. Other opportunities include business related apprenticeships and progression to higher education.
Progression from year one national foundation diploma to year two extended diploma is dependent on students demonstrating good attendance, consistent quality of work, a successful interview and tutor reference.
This course is assessed through a range of methods which include exams, assignments, projects and presentations.
This qualification is available to be assessed through the medium of English only.
Applicants will need to have: A minimum of five GCSE grades at A* - C or equivalent which includes either English language or Welsh first language and maths, or successful completion of a level two qualification in a relevant vocational subject at merit or above.
The English or maths will need to be at a B grade minimum. Entry for mature students without formal qualifications is through an interview process.
All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.
You will need to provide your own stationery and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits.
