Higher Apprenticeship in Project Management (Apprenticeship Course)

This is a work based learning programme that is appropriate for individuals working in Project management in a range of industries. Projects deliver beneficial change in a world increasing in pace and complexity. With scarce resources society demands greater effectiveness, competency, accountability and, increasingly, a zero tolerance of project failure.

The Diploma in Project Management, and its inclusion within the Higher Apprenticeship, has been designed to provide greater access to the provision of competent project professionals to the employment market.

This diploma provides a clear opportunity to increase competency and fill identified skills gaps, for example, stakeholder management skills, dealing with complexity, communication skills and technical competences such as project scheduling, risk management, earned value, planning and estimating.

This qualification is delivered in partnership with IUNGO Solutions. The Agored Level 4 Diploma in Project Management, equips individuals with the skills, knowledge and experience to undertake project management roles in a range of business settings.

This level 4 qualification helps to:

  • build a competent project management workforce, providing organisations of all sizes across all sectors with the staff needed to increase productivity and efficiency
  • tap into the skills and talents of a diverse population by providing flexible entry routes into a career in project management
  • equip individuals with the skills, knowledge and experience needed to undertake project management roles in a range of business settings
  • provide apprentices with an opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and experience they will need to progress to higher level roles with additional responsibilities and onto further and higher education, if they wish to do so.

What you will learn

To be awarded the Agored level 4 diploma in Project Management a total of 120 credits must be achieved. 50 Credits are achieved from the 3 mandatory units. With a further 70 credits being achieved from the optional units.

Essential Skills Wales: Digital Literacy, Numeracy* and Communication*

*Apprentices with GCSE grade A*- C, or equivalent, are exempt from taking these Essential Skills.

Successful achievement of the Agored Level 4 Diploma in Project Management will allow learners the ability to progress into further project manager roles. 

Higher apprentices, with support and opportunities in the workplace, can progress onto:

  • a range of Project Management and other qualifications, including those at level 5 and above, and those accredited internationally
  • higher education to undertake Project Management or other qualifications, includingDegrees or Masters in Project Management

Assessment focus

Assessment for the Agored Level 4 diploma in Project Management is comprised of both academic writing and practical assessment in the workplace. All assessment dates are outlined at the start of a module to ease with planning and preparation.

Assessment grading

This qualification is not graded. Learners will receive either a Pass or Fail. All assessment criteria must be met in order to achieve a Pass.

Qualification achievement

All assessments for this qualification are criterion referenced, based on the achievement of specified learning outcomes. To achieve a Pass for this qualification, a learner must have satisfied all the assessment criteria for each unit. If the complete qualification is not achieved, credit can be issued in the form of a statement of standalone unit credit. Statements of standalone unit credit will be subject to the currency of the existing qualification and Agored quality assurance checks. The Agored’s decision will be final.

Applicants are usually 18 or over and living in Wales.

There are no mandatory entry requirements for this Higher Apprenticeship framework. However employers are looking to attract apprentices who have a strong interest in, or practical experience of, a career in project management. In addition, they expect applicants to demonstrate a “can do” attitude and have good numeracy, literacy and communication skills on which the Apprenticeship will build.
