Construction trades are highly sought after skills which are often in demand.
If you’re not sure which trade you would prefer, then this course will give you an introduction to the construction sector along with a taster of the skills set required of a tradesperson.
Please refer to the option choices to select a pathway to learn skills in two trade areas. This will give you an opportunity to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in your chosen area.

What you will learn
This course is designed to develop the skills and knowledge of students enabling them to progress into the industry in their chosen craft.
It has been specifically developed for delivery in a training environment using simulated conditions and the tests are based on the learner showing what they can do as an individual.
The course is delivered by highly qualified and experienced staff using modern facilities. As part of the programme learners will also complete essential or basic literacy and numeracy development.
Opportunities will also be provided for GCSEs in Welsh, English and mathematics and for Welsh language development.
All learners will complete a mandatory introduction to a health and safety unit, a variety of general industry units and trade specific units.

Progression opportunities include apprenticeships or other full-time construction related qualifications that will provide further development and understanding of trades within the construction industry.
A variety of assessment methods are used which include written knowledge questions, online and practical skills tests.
This qualification is available to be assessed through the medium of Welsh and English.
GCSE grades A* to G in English or Welsh (first language) and maths or WJEC L1/2 Constructing the Built Environment or mature student. We would recommend students with GCSE grades A*-D consider applying for the Foundation in Construction and Building Services Engineering Level 2 qualification.
Applicants will also need to attend a successful interview. Applicants should also have an interest in the chosen craft and evidence of practical ability would be an advantage.
Students will be required to source and purchase their own personal protective equipment (PPE) which comprises safety boots, safety glasses, hard hat and hi-vis.
All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.
You will need to provide your own stationery and there may also be additional costs if the department arranges educational visits.
