The Level 3 Apprenticeship in Painting and Decorating is designed to equip learners with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the construction industry. This comprehensive programme includes qualifications, essential skills, and on/off-the-job training. The course focuses on preparing background surfaces, applying paint, and hanging wall coverings on complex surfaces, ensuring learners can work in commercial, industrial, and residential settings. What you will learn
The programme features a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Learners will gain hands-on experience both on-site and in training environments, with a total credit value of 78 credits required. The curriculum covers essential skills in communication and application of numbers, aligned with industry standards and regulations. Training is delivered in both English and Welsh, catering to a diverse range of learners. Apprentices will also develop core competencies such as safety awareness, risk management, and professional judgement, preparing them for a successful career in painting and decorating.
The programme includes qualifications, essential skills, and extensive on/off-the-job training. Key areas of study involve preparing surfaces, applying paint, and hanging wall coverings. Learners will also develop skills in health and safety, risk management, and professional behaviour.
Upon completion, apprentices will qualify for the CSCS Advanced Craft Card and can pursue various career paths, including site supervision and management roles. Further academic opportunities are available, such as higher-level apprenticeships and further education in construction-related fields.
Assessment is through a combination of practical evaluations, coursework, and examinations, ensuring learners demonstrate competence in both theoretical knowledge and practical application.
Applicants must be 16+ and have completed relevant foundational qualifications in construction or possess equivalent experience. Acceptable qualifications include Level 2/3 Certificates or Diplomas, Welsh Baccalaureate National Diploma, and GCSEs in relevant subjects. Verifiable work experience in the trade is also considered. GCSE grades D or above in a communication based subject, numerical based subject and technical based subject.
While the apprenticeship itself is funded, learners may incur additional costs for personal protective equipment, textbooks, and travel to training sites. Employers may cover some of these expenses, but it is advisable for apprentices to budget for these potential costs.
