Unvented hot water cylinders are notifiable works under Building Regulations. They are potentially very dangerous if installed incorrectly. This course aims to help plumbers and heating engineers who want to install Unvented Domestic Hot Water Storage Systems to comply with the appropriate Building Regulations and Standards.

Programme Description
Learner must reside legally in Wales and be aged 19 years old or over.
In addition, individuals must be:

employed (including Agency and Zero-hours contracts) or
-
self-employed or
-
full-time carers (incl. non-paid)
There is no funding wage cap for this course.
Various topics are covered in this course including:
- Regulations, standards and guidelines
- Principles of hot water storage
- Theory and understanding of expansion of hot water
- Design considerations
- Components and function
- Accumulators
- Safety controls, discharge and integration
- Maintenance and servicing
- Installation of unvented HW cylinders
- Health and safety
The very comprehensive course starts with intensive training in the four modules, followed by the completion of three assessments including one practical. Learners must successfully pass all three assessments to gain the BPEC Domestic Hot Water Storage Systems certificate and competency card.
This course is aimed at experienced plumbing and heating operatives who require a qualification in the installation, servicing and maintenance of unvented hot water systems from 15 to 500 litres. The course has recently been updated in line with the Part G Building Regulation and also includes new information and guidance on accumulators.
After successful completion of this course learners will have the knowledge and confidence to install Unvented Domestic Hot Water Storage Systems. Learners could also progress onto one of our many other courses.
