Programme Description

Learner must reside legally in Wales and be aged 19 years old or over.

In addition, individuals must be:

  • employed (including Agency and Zero-hours contracts) or

  • self-employed or

  • full-time carers (incl. non-paid)

There is no funding wage cap for this course.

This is a level 3 qualification consisting of 5 mandatory units that comprise of practical and theoretical elements. All units must be completed to achieve the overall qualification.These units include:

  • Knowing the requirements to install, commission and handover solar thermal hot water systems

  • Installing, commissioning and the handover of ‘active’ solar thermal hot water systems

  • Knowing the requirements to inspect, service and maintain ‘active’ solar thermal hot water systems

  • Inspecting, servicing and maintaining ‘active’ solar thermal hot water systems

This course is designed for experienced domestic heating installers or plumbers who want to diversify into solar heating.

Successful completion of this qualification proves that learners are competent to install, commission, decommission, service and maintain solar thermal hot water systems and therefore will extend career opportunities in the emerging technologies field.
