Engineering is a dynamic and diverse field that offers numerous exciting career opportunities.
This course is intended for students wishing to study for an honours degree on a part-time basis. The course runs over a three year period (following a HNC). It requires students to attend for one day per week throughout the academic year. The course is particularly suitable for mature students returning to education after a break or those students having recently gained a HNC award looking for further progression.
The degree is accredited by the IMechE.
The award is also available as a fully funded degree apprenticeship, which has been developed in collaboration with employers to ensure it meets current industry requirements and matches career progression needs. The programme will help apprentices develop their professional and technical skills through study linked to learning in the workplace. Relevant previous experience and qualifications will be taken into account to ensure that you enter the programme at the correct level, whether this be at Level 4, 5, or 6.

The course will establish the relevance of engineering to real world problems.
The course content matches the needs of modern industry and society at large.
Incorporates health and safety, environmental issues and sustainability throughout the degree.
Learners are able to develop an understanding of matters such as design reliability and maintenance, product quality and value, marketing, and safety.
Cultivate a high level technical proficiency in a major field of engineering, including the ability to tackle a variety of practical problems, however specialised.
Develop an understanding of relationships with clients, customers and colleagues, including the supervision of staff, and the ability to work as a member of an engineering team.
Example course structure:
- Year 1: Mechanical Science, Instrumentation and Control, Engineering Design, Engineering Mathematics, Automation Technology.
- Year 2: Thermofluids, Advanced Automation Technology, Engineering Design, Engineering Management.
- Year 3: Project, Research Methods, CAD and Analysis, Applied Mechanics, Thermodynamics.
Engineers requiring formal qualifications commensurate with their current position or looking for career progression will find this course of particular value. Opportunities for Incorporated Engineer status or entry to higher qualifications leading to Chartered Engineer status.
The assessment for this course will include a combination of assignments and examinations.
HNC Mechanical Engineering or HNC Manufacturing Engineering. Mature candidates possessing the equivalent of a relevant HNC and associated industrial experience will also be considered.
HE fees apply and any additional costs are determined annually by the college. Fees for academic year 2023-24: 1st year £2,196, 2nd Year £2,097, 3rd Year £2,013.
The learner will also be required to provide their own stationary and basic classroom equipment appropriate to their course (eg pens and a calculator).
