Engineering is a dynamic and diverse field that offers numerous exciting career opportunities.
This electric and electronic course is designed to equip individuals with the practical skills, knowledge and understanding required for success in current employment and progression to future employment opportunities in a range of related occupations, including: design, maintenance engineering, control and instrumentation, technical sales, teaching, process control and PLC control.
The programme follows an EAL Technical Extended Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology with 149 credits.

What you will learn
Provides the opportunity to specialise in a specific career discipline, or to choose an integrated programme.
Establish the relevance of engineering to real world problems.
Provides a common core of study with related specialist units leading to employment, professional or academic progression to higher education.
Develops the range of skills, knowledge, personal qualities and attitudes that are essential for career development and progression within the broad engineering industry and related sectors.
Focuses on the practical application of knowledge and the development of work related skills required for employment within the electrical and electronic engineering industry.
The year one units are Engineering & Environmental Health & Safety, Electrical & Electronic Principles, Engineering Mathematics, PLCs and Digital Electronics.
In year two the following are examples of units covered: Further Mathematics, Further Electrical & Electronic Principles, Analogue Systems Engineering, Analogue Electronics, Electrical Power, Project, Further Engineering Science, Engineering Instrumentation and Engineering Communications.
Students who successfully complete the programme may progress to HND or degree courses in related subjects. Jobs directly related to electrical and electronic engineering include research design and development, control and instrumentation, technical sales, teaching, maintenance engineering, process control and Plc control.
All units are assessed via exams, tests, assignments and practical activities.
This qualification is available to be assessed through the medium of English only.
Four GCSEs grades at A* - C to include mathematics and English/Welsh first language.
A successful interview showing motivation and commitment to the programme including an aptitude test and initial assessment.
Entry for mature students without the listed formal qualifications are welcomed at the discretion of the faculty.
All engineering full-time courses which include mechanical, electrical/electronic/fabrication and welding and motor vehicle, are fully funded.
The learner will also be required to provide their own stationery and basic classroom equipment appropriate to their course (eg pens and a calculator).
All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.
