Foundation Apprenticeship – Fabrication and Welding (Apprenticeship Course)

The Engineering Foundation Apprenticeship is in Fabrication & Welding. It is a work based learning programme at level 2 where the learner is “earning while learning”. The Foundation Apprentice will be employed and receive at least the minimum apprenticeship wage, attending college on a day release basis.

What you will learn
All learners will be supported by a Training Adviser / Assessor who will visit the work place on a regular basis to monitor progress towards achieving targets. The Training Adviser / Assessor will liaise closely with the employer and teaching team to ensure qualifications are achieved within agreed timescales. The apprentice will follow a NVQ in the work place which will be assessed by the Training Adviser / Assessor.
Learners following this apprenticeship will have to achieve a framework of qualifications which will include:
- Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Fabrication and Welding
- Level 2 Diploma in Engineering (college based)
- Essential Skills Wales level 1 Application of Number*
- Essential Skills Wales level 1 Communication*
- Essential Skills Wales level 1 Digital Literacy
*Proxies are available for those with a C or above in GCSE Maths and English
Foundation Apprentices are already employed and could progress to the level 3 apprenticeship programme.
The programme is continually assessed with coursework, tests, assignments, practical observations and work based evidence.
Candidates must have at least four GCSEs at grade C or above and include Mathematics and Welsh First Language or English.
