Welding is a fascinating and essential process that brings together craftsmanship and the precision of engineering.
The course focuses on specific welding and fabrication skills and recognises what a person is able to do at work at this level. It involves the skills and knowledge needed to execute the job, ability to organise work, identify and prevent problems.
This level 2 fabrication and welding learning programme follows a City and Guilds level 2 Diploma, level 2 units in the EAL Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) NVQ and Essential Skills Wales units where applicable.

Example units covered include: Working in Engineering, Principles of Engineering Technology, Principles of Fabrication and Welding Technology, Welding by MIG, Process Fabricating Thick Plate, Bar and Sections.
Successful completion of this course would allow students to apply for an engineering apprenticeship and/or progress to the City and Guilds level three Fabrication & Welding programme.
Continuous assessment of practical coursework and portfolio development, supported by online multiple choice tests, short answer question papers and assignments.
This qualification is available to be assessed through the medium of English only.
A minimum of three GCSEs A* - C grades, including maths and English/Welsh first language at grade C or above.
Applicants may hold a level one welding certificate and must have a keen interest in welding or fabrication. Course acceptance subject to a short interview.
All engineering full-time courses which include mechanical, electrical/electronic/fabrication and welding and motor vehicle, are fully funded.
The learner will also be required to provide their own stationery and basic classroom equipment appropriate to their course (eg pens and a calculator).
All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.
