What you will learn
This programme enables students to provide evidence that they can perform a particular job or skill. It provides a good foundation with flexibility to meet both current and future engineering practices.
The programme has been designed to support candidates who wish to acquire engineering competencies in a sheltered and controlled environment.
The progression path is to foundation apprenticeship and / or EAL level 3. Candidates are also encouraged to take GCSE maths, English and science resits where applicable.
The programme includes coverage of a City & Guilds L2 Certificate and GCSE Maths/English resits as applicable.
Continuous assessment of practical coursework, portfolio development, assignments and tests.
This qualification is available to be assessed through the medium of English only.
The programme provides evidence that you can do a particular job or skill to level 2 standard and may help you progress to employment or to a higher level NVQ/EAL or similar qualification. It will develop learners with broad-based engineering skills and help them decide on a particular engineering specialisation (ie. mechanical or electrical).
The entry requirement for this award is a minimum of two GCSEs graded C and two graded D. This should include Maths and English or Welsh first language at grade D minimum, and acceptance is subject to interview including diagnostic testing.
Candidates must demonstrate the basic skills required for this course, with a keen desire to achieve an engineering qualification.
All engineering full-time courses which include mechanical, electrical/electronic/fabrication and welding and motor vehicle, are fully funded.
The learner will also be required to provide their own stationery and basic classroom equipment appropriate to their course (eg pens and a calculator).
All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.
