These apprenticeships are designed for individuals over 16 seeking employment in the hairdressing industry. The Level 2 Foundation Apprenticeship offers an exciting introduction to the hair industry, equipping learners with the essential skills and qualifications needed to become a junior stylist. The Level 3 Apprenticeship builds on this foundation, focusing on advanced hairdressing techniques and salon practices, preparing learners to become senior stylists. Both levels combine work-based learning with college attendance, enabling learners to earn while they learn and achieve nationally recognised qualifications.

What you will learn

Level 2:
● Introduction to the hair industry and junior stylist skills
● Practical opportunities to work on clients within a salon
● Development of professionalism and industry-standard skills
● College attendance on a day release basis
● Regular assessment through practical skills tests and written assignments

● Level 3:
● Advanced hairdressing techniques and salon practices
● Training to become a senior stylist
● College attendance on a day release basis
● Regular assessment through practical skills tests, coursework, and written assignments

Level 2:
● Cutting hair using basic techniques
● Colour and lighten hair
● Advising and consulting with clients
● Essential Skills in literacy, numeracy, and digital literacy


Level 3:
● Creatively style and dress hair
● Creatively colour and lighten hair
● Develop, enhance, and evaluate creative hairdressing skills
● Essential Skills in literacy, numeracy, and potentially GCSE resits

Level 2:
● Progression to Level 3 Apprenticeship

● Qualification to work as a junior stylist
 

Level 3:
● Progression into employment within a salon or self-employment
● Opportunities to work on cruise ships, in international salons, or advance to further
education

● Written assessments

Level 2:
● No nationally agreed minimum entry requirements
● Practical, organisational, and social skills with a high degree of dexterity and coordination are essential
● Appropriate personal presentation and hygiene
 

Level 3:
● NVQ/VRQ Level 2 in hairdressing or equivalent experience
● Ability to run a busy client base
● Appropriate personal presentation and hygiene

● Learners may need to provide their own stationery and personal equipment.
● Potential costs for educational visits arranged by the department
