Beauty therapy is a career that is very diverse as it can lead to roles in salons, spas, cruise ships and hotels.

This course is a great introduction to the beauty industry within which you will learn basic beauty skills to prepare you to work in the beauty sector. This is an ideal opportunity to gain some confidence and show your creative talents with support from experienced beauty tutors.

The course includes basic manicure, pedicure and nail art, skin care, basic makeup and photographic make up, creating an image, basic face painting, reception duties, health and safety, introduction to the beauty sector, working with others and presenting a professional Image.

What you will learn

Our hair and beauty salons are specifically designed for training purposes and have all the latest equipment and resources. Candidates will need to be highly motivated and be willing to work as part of a team.

As a department we are keen to encourage students to reach their full potential by participating in both in- house and national competitions. You will also have the opportunity to attend trade shows, seminars, workshops as well as organised sector related trips.

The course focuses on gaining a sound working knowledge of the beauty industry and gaining fantastic practical skills. You will also be able to take part in an in-house competition and we regularly participate in the Urdd competitions. As a department we invite guest speakers from the industry to share their skills and demonstrate their work.

On successful completion of the course you will be able to progress to level two beauty. You will be supported to find the correct path that suits you.

A beautician can work in many industries such as hotels and spas carrying out various treatments such as facials, nail treatments and offering specialist advice in a professional environment.

Practical Assessments and Assignments

Three GCSE grades at A* - G in either English/Welsh (first language) or maths or equivalent. Applicants will be required to attend an interview.

All learners will follow a skills pathway in which they will develop their literacy and numeracy skills for employment. Students who do not yet have the necessary GCSE grades at C or above will have additional teaching and support to study for either GCSE or Essential Skills qualifications depending on prior GCSE grades.

It is a requirement of the course to purchase a beauty tunic and beauty kit.

All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25.00 prior to enrolment
