This course is designed to inspire and enthuse you to consider a career in the sports sector.
Throughout the year you will have the opportunity to gain a broader knowledge and understanding of the sport industry, which will underpin and enhance your skills as an aspiring sports person. It aims to prepare you for further study opportunities and provides a stepping stone to L3 Sport or L3 Public Services.
The course aims to link education to the world of work in engaging, relevant and practical ways, alongside developing essential skills such as literacy, numeracy and digital literacy. You will have access to industry standard facilities and equipment such as our 4G pitch, sports hall and fitness suite. You are also encouraged to engage in our Sports Academies that aim to develop athletes and players in a range of sports.

What you will learn
Areas of study include participating in sport, anatomy and physiology of exercise, sports coaching and development of personal fitness. You will also develop transferable interpersonal skills such as working with others, problem-solving, independent study and learning/thinking skills. Students will also develop skills in organisation, personal progression planning and research at an appropriate level.
You will be invited to run and lead events to your peers that will develop planning, confidence and communication skills.
The course is made up of 7 units that may include:
- Participating in Sport
- Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise
- Introduction to Healthy Exercise and Nutrition
- Sports Coaching
- Development of Personal Fitness Through Training
- Planning and running a Sports Event
- Plan, Deliver and Evaluate an Activity Session
The course also includes skill development sessions and a tutorial programme.

Assessment is 100% internally assessed written assignments via practical assessments, presentations, logbooks, use of video evidence, open book tests, leaflets/brochures, etc. Each unit is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction, with an overall grade e.g. P, M, or D awarded on completion. There are 3 core units and 4 optional units. Students must meet specific assessment criteria in order to achieve each mark.
You will require a minimum of three GCSEs at grades A*-C, which includes either English language, Welsh (first language) or maths. Progressions from level one sport are also accepted.
All students are assessed on an individual basis and will be offered the opportunity to attend an interview.
English and Maths are an integral part of the course. Students who do not yet have the necessary grades at C or above will have additional teaching and support to study for either GCSE, Agored Qualifications or Essential Skills depending on prior GCSE grades.
All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.
