If you’re interested in sport and want a taster and introduction to studying it then this might be the course for you.
Engage in a course that will introduce you to the industry of sport, fitness, leisure and wellbeing.
This one year course is designed to introduce you to the knowledge and skills needed to pursue an education and/or career in the sport and active leisure industry.
You will have the opportunity to engage in practice-based activities and subject specific theoretical study, alongside developing essential skills such as literacy, numeracy and digital literacy. You will have access to industry standard facilities and equipment such as our 4G pitch, sports hall and fitness suite. You are also encouraged to engage in our sports academies that aim to develop athletes and players in a range of sports.

What you will learn
Areas of study include practical sports, coaching, health, lifestyle and training for fitness. You will also develop skills in organisation, personal progression planning and research at an appropriate level.
You will gain a solid foundation of transferable skills and essential skills as well as an understanding into various career paths within the sport and active leisure industry.
The course is made up of 10 units that, which include:

- Assisting in a sports activity
- Training for Fitness
- Playing Sport
- Coaching Skills in Sport
- Getting People Active
- Keeping Active and Healthy
This course provides an insight into the sports and active leisure industry and encourages learners to progress further in order to achieve their career aims as well as focussing on the fundamental transferable skills. Successful completion of the course will allow students to progress onto Level 2 sport.
Progression opportunities depend on the students achievements at Level1. It is an expectation that learners complete with a full merit profile and demonstrate progress in literacy and numeracy. Progress in subject to interview.
All assignments are devised by the course tutors, and assessed internally.
To pass an internally assessed unit, students must meet all the assessment criteria.
This qualification is available to be assessed through the medium of English only.
You will require a minimum of three GCSEs with grades A* - G, which includes either English language, Welsh (first language) or maths
English and maths are an integral part of the course. Students who do not yet have the necessary grades at C or above will have additional teaching and support to study for either GCSE, Agored Qualifications or Essential Skills depending on prior GCSE grades.
Additional cost may occur for offsite activities and course / academy kit. As well as providing your own educational resources i.e stationary.
All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.
Funding may be available depending on individual circumstances.
