Working in the motor vehicle industry is an exciting opportunity to use your problem solving and mechanical skills helping people get back onto and be safe on the roads.
Motor mechanics are responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining vehicles, ensuring they are in proper working condition.
This learning programme will enable you to achieve a recognised vocational related qualification in light vehicle motor vehicle maintenance and repair.
Delivery of teaching is undertaken in a purpose built facility which has workshops equipped with the latest equipment and tools used within the motor vehicle maintenance and repair sector.
The programme aims to provide you with an enjoyable, stimulating and challenging learning experience, with an emphasis placed on developing practical skills that are required by a modern vehicle mechanic.
The programme also focuses on improving your confidence, employability and entrepreneurship prospects.
You will also be allocated a personal tutor, who will support you with your progress and provide pastoral care for the duration of the course.

What you will learn
The course is delivered by a team of experienced teaching practitioners who are also vocationally qualified and occupationally experienced.
The team retain strong links with the motor vehicle sector and undertake continuous professional development to ensure that the programme’s teaching and learning is both current and relevant.
During the academic year, you will have opportunities to undertake work experience, enabling you to develop, consolidate and apply your studies. Also, you will have the opportunity to attend educational visits that aim to enrich your studies, inspire learning and raise aspirations.
The units within the programme consist of the following motor vehicle knowledge and skill subject sets:
- Health, safety and good housekeeping
- Supporting job roles
- Materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices
- Diagnosing and rectifying vehicle auxiliary electrical faults
- Diagnosing and rectifying vehicle engine faults
- Diagnosing and rectifying chassis system faults
- Diagnosis and rectification of vehicle transmission and driveline faults
In addition to the above units, learners will also work towards the following qualifications.
- Essential Skills in Application of Number
- Essential Skills in Communication
Successful completion of the programme provides progression to an apprenticeship programme.
Subject knowledge and skills are assessed via online multiple-choice tests, written assignments and practical task observations.
This qualification is available to be assessed through the medium of English only.
We would require:
- Level two Diploma in Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
- GCSEs at grade C or above in English or Welsh language and mathematics.
All applicants will undergo an interview to establish their suitability for the programme.
All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.
You will need to provide your own stationery and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits.
