Developed from the emergent technologies of an evolving creative industry, learners on this level four 3D design and animation course you will be encouraged to explore innovative ideas whilst gaining blended skills in art, design and technology. Capture, creation and output of 3D digital models and environments, with particular focus on VR platforms and an emphasis on skills. The course focuses on a variety of practical projects that include 3D modelling, animation, virtual and augmented reality, creating outcomes for a variety of contemporary platforms.

This qualification can be studied on a full-time basis over one academic year, or part-time over two years and will enable those students who are unable to commit to studying a full BA Honours degree to have an understanding of, and learn the basic skills required in Digital 3D Design and Animation.

What you will learn

You can expect a varied programme of assignments that highlight the importance of technical skills within the industry. Students have access to excellent facilities with high spec computer suites with the latest versions of industry standard software and cutting-edge resources including VR equipment, hand-held 3D laser scanner, photogrammetry equipment and professional 360 cameras. And with small class sizes, students have plenty of access to these facilities.

The programme ensures that students demonstrate a good basic understanding of 3D Design & Virtual Reality applications relevant to the industry,

The applications of skills are numerous, from creating assets for the video game industry and VFX to digital reconstruction for the heritage sector.

The Certificate of Higher Education is a skills-based year delivered through a series of workshops, including Developing Visual Language, Visualisation: Concept & Process, Digital Processes, Creative Digital Practice (used within the 3D industry), Introduction to 3D Animation, Learning in the Digital Era and a Creative Project.

On successful completion of the Certificate of Higher Education, you can progress to level 5 of the full degree if you choose to do so.

Upon completing the full BA (Hons) Degree:-  there is a current boom in the 3D sector, fuelled by advances in technology and the ever-growing platforms in which to contextualise these skills. These include the gaming industry; Film/TV; architectural visualisation; heritage; 3D printing; advertising; engineering; illustration and many more.

Assessment is on-going through workshop plenary sessions, critiques, formative and summative assessment with aural and written feedback.

Tariff score points accepted: A minimum of 96 points or equivalent portfolio ability for mature applicants.

There is no additional Studio fee. However, it is likely that you will incur additional costs for specialist materials, printing and for course related excursions.
