Animation and film production is one of the most exciting career pathways within the creative industries sector.
You will be learning skills and gaining the tools to work within the areas of live broadcast, animation, film production, special FX as well as live events and performance video production.

What you will learn
We have fully-equipped computer suites, where you will find the latest software and state-of-the-art technology. Our on site recording rooms and film studio host industry standard and professional equipment, which you can sign out, free of charge. You will also have access to the Adobe suite at home and in college; Toon Boom Studio and Dragon Studio Animation Software. Our Apple Macintosh computer suites run Adobe Premiere, Prelude, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Audition, Encore, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Logic X programs.
Our creative media and production department has strong connections right across the industry, so you will benefit from industry specialists and networking opportunities.
The course starts with two months of skills delivery where you will learn how to use the equipment and the software, and then you start making content straight away that is in line with your interests.
There are three projects that run throughout the year and you choose your content - an audio, visual and interactive. You then finish the year with a 16-week Final Major Project where you choose an area of interest and create your own project.
This course also includes literacy and numeracy development where you can resit GCSE English/maths, complete an Agored qualification or attend skills classes.
This course prepares you for our level three Animation and Film Production course where you develop your skills further. You could also use this course as a platform onto level three Production Arts or other courses. This is an extremely exciting time for the creative media industry within Wales leading to job opportunities on our doorstep with the Yr Egin in Carmarthen, Tinopolis in Llanelli and the BBC studios in Cardiff. Successful completion of the course will enable you to progress to higher-level courses, apprenticeships or employment.
Units are assessed internally - all of your marks come from your coursework at the end of the year.
All applicants will need to bring a portfolio of Media or Art and Design work to their interview, where suitability for this course will be assessed.
Applicants need a minimum of four GCSE grades at A* - D with two Cs, one being maths or English/Welsh (first language). Or successful completion of a level one vocational qualification in a relevant subject at merit or above. Students who do not yet have the necessary grades will have additional teaching and support to study for either GCSE or Essential Skills depending on prior GCSE grades.
All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.
You will be expected to provide yourself a set of headphones, SD card and memory stick at an estimated cost of £60.00 max.
