If you are passionate about good music, then explore and develop all of your skills involved in creating, producing and performing with the music performance and technology team.
This University of the Arts London (UAL) Awarding Body course will provide you with the broad and extensive subject knowledge that will cover a wide range of composition and production techniques using industry standard software and a variety of hardware instruments and processors.
These practical experiences will allow you to build a portfolio that promotes yourself for higher education, apprenticeships or employment. You will gain practical skills that will build your confidence in your creative exploration, which will give you the necessary skills to receive first-rate practical experiences.

Our performance and production course is a career-focused introduction to the modern music industry at one of two levels. We provide opportunities to explore and develop skills through practical projects that are designed to reflect current practices and to give experience of real-world situations.
As a student you will have access to our well-resourced production suites; these include a high-quality recording studio with dedicated recording spaces, a sound design-focussed music production suite, live broadcast streaming room, and media studio with supporting gallery. All classrooms are equipped with industry standard editing and recording applications as well as a Mac for each student. Through the year various workshops will be given to develop skills needed for the different facilities available.
As part of our study programme you will be able to choose and explore job roles within given projects that include the following:
- Live Sound Engineer
- Events Manager
- Sound Recordist (Recording Studio & Live)
- Mixing Engineer (Recording Studio)
- Producer (Sequencing, Sampling, Mixing & Recording)
- Sound Designer (Sound to Image, Synthesis)
- Composer (Sound to Image, Composing and arranging)
- Stream Engineer
In a subject area that covers an incredible range of topics and disciplines, employability is a key factor incorporated into the course. We are dedicated to providing you with the necessary skills and knowledge to progress to higher-level courses or employment.
The growth in digital technology has resulted in an increase in job roles and it is an extremely exciting time for creative industries within Wales. This course will provide you with the transferable skills that could lead you to training in a wide variety of occupations such as musician, sound engineer, sound technician, music therapist or a teacher.
Units are assessed internally. You will also create a final major project.
All applicants will need to bring a portfolio of music work to their interview and if able to play an instrument demonstrate ability level. Suitability for this course will be assessed at interview.
An Applicant for the level three course will need to have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C including either maths, English or Welsh first language.
English and maths are an integral part of the course. Students who do not yet have the necessary grades at C or above will have additional teaching and support to study for either GCSE or Essential Skills depending on prior GCSE grades.
All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.
You will need to provide your own stationery and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits.
