This award is for those who are interested in teaching and who would benefit from an introductory course.
Please note that it does not qualify the learner to teach but it does act as an introduction to the PCET/PGCE qualification so it is suitable for those currently training or for those who are new to teaching.
The course can also be used as a form of continuous professional development.
Candidates who successfully complete this qualification will have a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer in relation to legislation, equality, diversity, inclusivity and meeting the needs of learners. They will be able to plan and deliver sessions, using inclusive approaches, appropriate resources and teaching methods. They will also be able to identify the characteristics of effective assessment and feedback.

This award allows insight and introduction into becoming a teacher; progression onto the Coleg Sir Gar/Coleg Ceredigion PCET/PGCE is recommended.

There is no minimum teaching practice requirement, but there is a requirement to deliver a microteaching session with your peers.
Learners must be at least 19 years of age to achieve this qualification.
There is no requirement in relation to the minimum core in the Award qualification. However, there is a requirement to carry out an initial assessment of a trainee teacher’s personal skills in English, maths and ICT.
