The course is a gateway into one of the fastest growing industries both locally and nationally. The majority of students use this course as a stepping-stone to a Level 1 programme in Professional Cookery & Food and Beverage Service, on successful completion of the course and achieving the required attendance.

What you will learn
A central element of the course is the work related experience. All learners work alongside our staff to run the service at Cegin Sir Gar, our on site training restaurant.
Here you will gain a realistic view of the demands of working in the catering industry in a safe and supportive environment. You will be taught culinary and food service skills by highly experienced staff through lively demonstrations and practical skills sessions. The hands-on experience in the training restaurant provides lots of opportunities to put these skills into practice.
On the Entry Level 3 Diploma in Hospitality Industry Skills course you will study a variety of restaurant and kitchen units.
The core units focus on food safety, hygiene and working effectively as a team. Other units cover topics such as preparing Vocabulary used in Hospitality and Catering, Commodities, Setup and Clearing a Dining Room, Serving food and drinks.
Literacy and numeracy are important for all students. Students who do not have a C grade or above in Maths, English or Welsh (first language) will have additional teaching and support to study either GCSE or Essential Skills depending on current level.
You will have plenty of support in developing your customer service and kitchen skills and techniques, and your experiences on the course will help you understand the pathways open to you in the industry.
The purpose of this qualification is to develop the transferable skills, attributes and behaviours needed for learners to progress to further study. Successful completion of the course will enable you to progress to higher-level courses such as the Level 1 Professional Cookery programme, which includes food and beverage service.
On successful completion of the Level 1 Course learners can continue their progression through the Level 2 qualification. If attendance and commitment has been demonstrated
Units are assessed through observation of practical work in our on-site Cegin Sir Gar restaurant and successful completion of written assignments and underpinning knowledge questions tests.
There are no pre-entry requirements for this qualification. You will need to show a keen interest in catering at interview. Suitability for the course will be assessed at interview and throughout the induction period.
All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.
You will need to provide your own stationery and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits. Full set of clothing to be purchased for kitchen and restaurant .List to be sent to students. Equipment, knives set.
