Level 3 Certificate in Domestic Energy Assessment (Short courses and Adult Learning)

This is a professional qualification for those who wish to pursue a career as a Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA). Once qualified, DEAs register with an Accreditation Scheme which accredits them to produce Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) for individual existing homes (not newly built). This is in accordance with legislation implementing the EU Directive on the Energy Performance of Buildings.

Programme Description

Learner must reside legally in Wales and be aged 19 years old or over.

In addition, individuals must be:

  • employed (including Agency and Zero-hours contracts) or

  • self-employed or

  • full-time carers (incl. non-paid)

There is no funding wage cap for this course.

  • Gain the professional qualification needed to assess and certify the energy performance of existing homes.
  • Learn how to produce EPCs, required by law since 2008, which rate the energy efficiency of homes, similar to appliance energy ratings.
  • Get an in-depth understanding of the EU Directive on Energy Performance of Buildings and how it impacts domestic properties.
  • Learn how to register with an Accreditation Scheme, which is required to legally produce Acquire practical skills in energy assessment that can be applied to a range of existing homes, helping property owners meet energy efficiency standards.

This qualification is suitable for new entrants to the sector seeking to begin a career in energy assessment but also for those with experience in property inspection or surveying wishing to gain a qualification in energy assessment.

After successful completion of this qualification learners could progress onto other courses such as the IEMA Pathways to Net Zero or the GQA Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Domestic Retrofit courses.
