Pathway 4 - Stepping into Employment

This qualification provides learners with an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when entering workplace environments.

It covers all aspects of support in their Internship, including: working with colleagues, health and safety awareness, communication in the workplace, career preparation and personal development.

What you will learn

Learners will attend college in Graig one day a week and attend work placement 2 days a week to gain valuable workplace experience and employability skills, such as organisation and time management. CV, writing a cover letter, completing application forms and interview skills will be covered in the teaching sessions.

Learners will develop skills with the support of a tutor and job coach.
Learners will also receive travel training support in order to promote independence.

This qualification aims to:

  • Focus on the study of practical skills and how they can be developed.

  • Offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge

  • Provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills.

The objectives of this qualification is to:

  • Provide learners with in depth understanding and practical experience of the knowledge and skills needed in a working environment

  • Provide a stepping stone into further learning within the sector.

Learners can progress into the workplace with the support given to develop a CV, search for job roles and completing the application process. This may be volunteering opportunities or paid employment.

Internally assessed and externally quality assured portfolio of evidence. As learners need to show competence in both skills and knowledge, they will complete class based written work and be observed in their placement throughout the duration of the course.

No formal entry requirements needed, however, applicants must be interested in a supporting role within a working environment.

Qualities assessed at interview:

  • Interest in, and commitment to, working and studying for three days per week

  • Motivated to succeed within the job

  • Willing to reflect on their own practice, learn, and apply that learning in the workplace

  • Able to demonstrate that they have the potential to complete the qualifications which are part of the Internship

  • Able to work independently and as a member of a team and communicate effectively with a range of people

  • An appropriate level of numeracy and literacy (in English or Welsh)

  • Willing to undergo a compulsory DBS check for suitability for working with vulnerable people.

  • Learners will need to be able to travel independently to college and work placement. Travel Training may be provided.

  • Cost of enhanced DBS check.

  • All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.
