The Fresh Start (Entry Level 3) course offers students an excellent introduction to college life and to the world of further education.

It is aimed at those returning to education, students who may require additional support with their studies or personal life, students with no previous qualifications or those who have not yet decided on a vocational pathway.

You will have the opportunity to undertake taster sessions in a variety of vocational areas.

What you will learn

The Fresh Start tutor team are experienced and skilled in delivering teaching and learning to students requiring additional support and motivation to re-engage them into education.

Many aspects of the course are based around active team building sessions to support personal development and wellbeing to help build confidence, self esteem and interpersonal skills. The course offers learners the opportunity to develop employability skills alongside developing knowledge of and skills in a range of different vocational areas.

Students will also be given the opportunity to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh bronze award. Skills development in numeracy and literacy are also a priority throughout the year. Towards the end of the course, students will receive support and guidance to help them select an appropriate progression route.

  • An entry level three vocational taster

  • Literacy and numeracy development through various pathways. 
  • Be Active and wellbeing activities

The course supports opportunities to progress onto the college’s foundation course or onto other training opportunities.

The programme is delivered in a supported learning environment.

There is a person-centred approach to assessment and each learner will work on their own individual targets throughout the year.

Vocational units are assessed internally through assignments and tutor observations. Skills are assessed through written assessments.

This course is available bilingually.

No formal entry requirements. Suitability for this course will be assessed at interview. This is a full time course and learners will be expected to attend for 3 full days a week.

All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.

You will need to provide your own stationery and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits.
