Shannon holding her bronze medal with a WorldSkills UK backdrop

Shannon Brown won a bronze medal in restaurant services at this year’s WorldSkills UK national final.

She is studying both food service and professional cookery at Coleg Ceredigion’s Cardigan campus with food service as her personal passion.

This two-day competition challenged participants to test advanced skills required by the restaurant service industry.

It included fine dining service, afternoon tea service, cocktail making, specialty coffees, salmon carving, pineapple carving and pineapple flambé.

Shannon Brown said: “I didn’t expect to get a medal and I was very shocked but very excited that I got further than I expected.

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw my name on the big screen on the stage.

“I didn’t know what to do; I was so shocked but it was an amazing feeling walking on stage and receiving the medal.

“The first thing I did when I had the medal was look for my tutor Huw and my family in the crowd.

“From taking part in this event, I have realised that I have felt more confident with my skills than I did before, I also realised that I can do great things in life and I can go far and if I follow my dreams, I can become a success in the future.

“I would also like to broaden my horizons by exploring the hospitality world and gain experience wherever my skills will take me.

“After completing my level three course at Cardigan, I plan to travel and look for any work or experiences to get ahead in this amazing industry that Coleg Ceredigion has introduced me to.”
