Caitlin Trussler was a young mum who left school with no GCSEs, but she’s now graduated with a BA honours degree in social care studies.

She had always aspired to improve herself and had always worked in the care sector, the community and in care homes for older people and for people with a learning disability, but a significant event in her life spurred her into a life changing decision.

Sadly, following the loss of her mum, Caitlin realised that life was too short and this was the catalyst that eventually led her to work on developing herself and apply for the course.

Caitlin Trussler said: “Genuinely, this is the best thing I ever did.

“It made me realise what I wanted to do, supporting individuals who really need help in their lives in general.

“I learned about different aspects of social care including criminology and law and how it applies to society in general.”

Caitlin is now working as a housing support worker with Housing First where she supports people coming out of prison to find housing, access financial support and refer them to any necessary specialist organisations.

She has recently been promoted to project manager within Housing First which she is thrilled about.

Caitlin Trussler added: “This course has increased my confidence to realise I could do it.

“I’ve found out who I am and with life experience behind me, it helped me understand what others may be going through which helped me even more on the course.”
