Online course started Laura’s animal science journey
Laura Tucker started to explore her interest in working with animals by studying a higher education online certificate at Coleg Sir Gâr.
After completing the online certificate, Laura was encouraged to progress her studies and is now studying a foundation degree in animal science at the college’s Pibwrlwyd campus.
Laura’s experience of the online course was positive and the flexibility it allowed her, suited her learning schedule. She said: “My experience of the course was brilliant and the tutor support was so helpful.
“The assignment guidelines were clearly laid out and were very clear as to what they were expecting for each assignment and they were really fun and interesting to complete.
“The lessons for me were easy to understand and the assignment due dates were also given at the beginning of the course so that it is easier to plan.”
Laura has since moved onto face-to-face learning at the college’s animal and equine centre at Pibwrlwyd. “I was encouraged to study further after the amazing time I had on the level four online animal science course,” said Laura. “I will say that all the tutors I have had have been incredibly helpful, informative and really want you to succeed in the course. What surprised me was how detailed the lessons were as I have undertaken some online courses prior to this, and it wasn’t as informative as this course. I did enjoy several parts of the course; I think my particular favourite was the marine biology optional module which has encouraged me to undertake more research on marine biology in my free time.”
Her plans for the future are to secure employment within wildlife rescue or animal welfare.
