Gwenno’s Creative Journey at Coleg Ceredigion

Gwenno, a student from Coleg Ceredigion, has embraced her time studying for a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, and she’s grateful for the opportunity it gave her to experiment and grow as an artist.

Originally unsure about her next steps, Gwenno decided to take the foundation year to give herself some time to explore her options. “I wanted to do an art foundation course, and I mainly did it for a year to decide what I wanted to do, because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go to Uni or not. So I decided to study a foundation to give myself some extra time.”

For Gwenno, the course was more than just an opportunity to focus on what she already knew—it allowed her to try new things and push her boundaries. “The opportunity to experiment with different things was amazing. It wasn’t just about doing what you want to do. It gave a lot of experimentation. I could try a range of things rather than just sticking to what I knew,” she says.

Throughout her time at Coleg Ceredigion, Gwenno has been supported by tutors who have helped her develop her skills and adapt her knowledge to new areas. “I find the tutors have been supportive because they’ve let me adapt my skills into new things. I hadn’t really done much photography before, so I was taught how to use a camera and how to edit photos. They also let me develop things I already knew how to do,” she reflects.

Now, as Gwenno prepares to continue her studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Design for Performance, she is excited about the next chapter of her creative journey, but remains appreciative of the solid foundation Coleg Ceredigion has provided.
