Carpentry and Joinery apprentices from Coleg Ceredigion’s Cardigan Campus were invited to demonstrate their skills at a CITB ( Construction Industry Training Board) apprenticeship Showcase event held at the Senedd recently as part of Apprenticeship Week.

As part of celebrating apprenticeship success, our three apprentices, Steffan Thomas, Osian James, and Daniel Morgans who all previously competed in World Skills UK, Skillbuild competition in Milton Keynes in November 2023, were asked to attend and talk about their experiences and how it felt to take part in such a highly acclaimed competition, they were accompanied by Carpentry Lecturer Rhodri Morris and Head of Cardigan Campus, Huw Thomas.

During the Senedd event, the students showcased activities they had mastered for the Skill build competitions, but also challenged Senedd members to construct a Bird Feeder to a set marking criteria, this certainly triggered the AM’s competitive sides.

During the event, Steffan Thomas and Osian James were recognised for their outstanding achievement of being awarded a Gold medal at the WorldSkills UK, Skillbuild competition.

Huw Thomas, Head of Section of the Cardigan Campus said: “It’s been a
tremendous privilege for us as a college to be invited to the Senedd today and be part of this CITB Showcase event, we’re fortunate to have so many talented apprentices across all of our vocations and have such strong links with local business, this event highlighted the importance of apprenticeships and how it offers such an unique method of combining real work with training and study for a specific career.”
