Cerith Evans is a Coleg Ceredigion public services student who has aspirations of becoming a PCSO in his hometown of Tregaron.

The 18-year-old has recently been selected as a student ambassador which involves representing Coleg Ceredigion and the college’s public services course at events.

He started his college journey with a level one vocational studies course where he got a taste of the vocational subjects at the college and he then progressed to a level two course opting to study public services.

Cerith Evans said: “I really enjoy college because I feel a part of a community and I’ve made a lot of friends.”

“I have good relationships with my tutors and the staff offer me support when I need it and the college offers provision to improve and maintain my wellbeing.”

Cerith already volunteers extensively in the community and he wants to share this experience within his ambassador role. “I feel very passionate about Tregaron,” he said. “I feel that I have the skills to do the same for my college community such as communicating with young people and adults.”

Within Tregaron, Cerith is a significantly active member of many groups, including the carnival committee and Tregaron Trotting Races. He’s also a steward at the Welsh Music Festival Tregaroc and undertakes town duties such as supporting the Christmas lights, Poppy appeal, traffic management during events, taking posters and flyers around the town and litter picking.

Cerith also shadows local police in community engagement events which supports his aspirations to become a PCSO.

“I came to college last year and I was a little nervous but I feel that my confidence is growing and I am now a class representative for my public services class.

“My tutors helped me to prepare for my interview for becoming a college ambassador and I think the interview process was good for my development and experience.

“I’ve made many new friends and good relationships with my peers and tutors and I’ve benefited a lot by being a student at Coleg Ceredigion.

“I work part time with voluntary organisations to keep the community going and my role as a potential PCSO will give me an opportunity for a career while staying in my hometown.”
