Art course celebrates 60th anniversary and calls for former tutors and students to get together for another artistic adventure
Carmarthen School of Art at Coleg Sir Gâr is inviting former foundation art and design students and former lecturers to take part in the course’s 60th anniversary.
The celebration begins with an exhibition of the work by current lecturers and it is hoped that former lecturers and alumni will come together and collaborate to make and exhibit more work together.
The foundation art and design course is designed to help students make informed choices about which specialism to choose for their arts practice and/or university specialism.
Foundation students utilise the expertise from the degree courses found at Carmarthen School of Art such as sculpture, fine art, fashion, jewellery, graphics and photography.
Imogen Mills, program director for foundation art and design at Coleg Sir Gâr’s Carmarthen School of Art said: “Anyone who has previously been on a foundation course, will tell you it was the best year of their learning because it’s a dynamic, creative and explorative journey.
“Foundation is a vibrant, dynamic course that encourages students to think laterally, innovating across disciplines, experimenting widely with materials and processes.
“Curated by art school lecturer, Rhodri Rees, this current exhibition marks the start of a year of celebration, initiated here with an exhibition is of current lecturers’ work. The diversity of approaches, thinking and making here is reflected back in the breadth of workshops delivered to Foundation students. As lecturers, to grab the opportunity to revisit our practices is vital.
“Over the next year, we want to collaborate to embody Carmarthen School of Art’s foundation values and ethos and we very much welcome people to get in touch.”
Former lecturers and students of the foundation art and design course that want to get involved, can make contact with Imogen Mills at the art school by emailing fad60@colegsirgar.ac.uk.
