Art and design students explore culture and creativity in Berlin
Nearly 30 art and design students from Coleg Sir Gâr’s Carmarthen School of Art spent three days in Berlin exploring German culture and all things creative.
Students discovered that Berlin has a diverse range of historical and contemporary art and design works across various exhibitions and museums where they were given the time to explore many pieces that were on display.
The group visited galleries, museums and historical areas such as the Berlin Wall and Checkpoint Charlie, the most famous crossing point between East and West Berlin.
They also visited sites such as the Holocaust Memorials near the Brandenburg Gate and talked about the impact of these events upon wider communities.
Amelia Kilvington, head of section for art and design at Coleg Sir Gâr’s Carmarthen School of Art said: “Our level three students, some of who will be applying for university as their next step, experienced some of the culture and history of Berlin and also visited the main exhibition venues in the city.
“Students conducted research and sketched throughout their travels. They also sampled local foods and navigated some of the busiest transport networks in Europe. It was a memorable trip for all involved.”
