Gelli Aur Farm

Gelli Aur Farm

Introduction

The College farms 211 hectares of land in the fertile Tywi Valley, 3 miles from Llandeilo and 14 miles from Carmarthen. The main focus our Gelli Aur farm is to produce milk from grass. We have 500 milking cows split into two herds, allowing an evaluation of two different herd management strategies.

Alongside the pasture fields and dairy enterprise, we have a small amount of arable land as well as beef cattle, a flock of breeding ewes and some pigs.

Gelli Aur is also home to the Agricultural Research Centre, which aims to facilitate the development of Welsh agricultural industry through proactive technology transfer, and the provision of specialist advice.

Conference facilities Gelli Aur are also available throughout the year for seminars and meetings. The modern facilities supported by a dedicated team of lecturers, trainers and technical support staff and excellent catering offering varied menus, make it an ideal venue for any training or professional development events.

If you’re thinking about studying on one of our Agriculture or Agricultural Engineering courses, you can visit the farm on one of our open days.

Every year we also take part in Open Farm Sunday, which is a chance for the public to visit the farm and learn about what we do. Follow us on social media to find out when the next date is coming up.
