A career as a sports massage therapist involves providing therapeutic massages to athletes and individuals engaged in physical activities. Sports massage therapy focuses on preventing and treating injuries, enhancing performance, promoting recovery, and improving overall physical wellbeing.
A qualified level three sports massage therapist will be able to work safely and effectively on dysfunctional tissue in a range of contexts, to include pre-event, post event, intra-event and for maintenance purposes.

What you will learn
The course is delivered part-time, three hours a week over 34 weeks. The first cohort of learners will commence in the September of each year.

- USP41: Anatomy and physiology for sports massage
- USP42: Principles of health and fitness
- USP43: Understand the principles of soft tissue dysfunction
- USP44: Professional practice in sports massage
- USP45: Sports massage treatments
This qualification is designed to lead to employment as a sports massage therapist.
You will be involved in a thriving programme of activities and given an insight into career prospects within the industry, which are gained through trips and events.
Upon successful completion of this course, you could progress on to a higher-level course such as the level four certificate in sports massage therapy.
Learners would preferably hold a grade C in GCSE in English or Welsh and have a keen interest in sports. Suitability for this course will be assessed at interview; however, a positive attitude to learning a vocational skill is required and you must be motivated to work with the public and have a professional attitude.
